The pet of your dreams could be at your local animal shelter, waiting to be taken home.“There are just so many deserving animals at our shelter that just need a loving home,” said Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter Outreach Coordinator Liz Presley.TMAS hosts adoption events around town so they can match dogs and cats with a perfect owner. Workers said their goal is finding families who can provide the animals with proper love and care.Presley said starting at an animal shelter on your pet search is often better than buying one.“You see all these bad stories about puppy mills and breeders and everything,” she said.Residents said they’re concerned about the future of the dogs and cats at the animal shelter, so that is why they chose adoption.“No, I don’t believe in that,” said Tuscaloosa resident Mary Wedgeworth. “I think the ones that already been here, they need to be adopted before all of those have been done. You don’t know what’s going to happen to them when they leave the place.”Even if someone cannot foster or adopt a dog, you can always donate toward a pet adoption to help their future owner afford their new best friend.“If you’re able to open your heart and open your home, then adopt, foster, donate,” Presley said. “It all helps.”TMAS currently has a special called “Mutt Madness” until the end of this month.
